Okay look

When you send mail to me, I’m just gonna delete it.

You all seem to be missing the point. This person has internet access. They can google search “are dreadlocks appropriation?” and get over 100k results in .27 seconds. But do they do that? No. They come to this blog and expect me to fucking sit here and hold their hand.  And this is the insult of white privilege.

I want to learn, but you won’t teach me.”

I am not your friend. I am not here to be nice to you.

Go jump in a river.

Okay, I just want to say something about this.

First off, this is the post that he is saying people are referring to:

Okay, so I will agree with you that yes, Google is their friend. They can just Google why dreadlocks are appropriation and get some answers. And they should eventually, but I’ll get to that later.

What they did, however is ask you. It takes about the same amount of effort to go to the browser URL bar, type “google.com”, and search “are white people with dreadlocks appropriation?” as it takes to go to your blog - which has talked about this before - go looking for a place to ask a question, and pose the question to you.

So why did they ask you?

Maybe, it’s because they have seen the way you answer questions. They’ve seen the way you break down information and tell why things are the way they are. And they like the way you do that. They want you to do the same for their question. They want to understand this issue by reading your response.

And yes, in the time after they have read your answer - and hopefully after they have asked you and before you respond - they do use Google. They look for more information. They try their best to keep trying to learn about this and they stick to it after they read your answer.

Because you aren’t a dictionary of racism. You aren’t expected to answer every single question that comes to you. It’s your blog, and you can do whatever you feel like. Nobody has the right to make you do anything. Like you said, you are not their friend, you don’t have to hold their hand and be nice to them.

And I don’t know that those people you’re talking about in the first post said to you. I don’t know if the original asker came back and responded. Maybe they said that you should answer questions. Maybe the original asker felt offended and said they “were just asking a simple question and you didn’t have to be so hostile”. (I use these as examples as I’ve seen these used countless times to many other blogs.) I don’t know if you were sent hateful things. I don’t know. What I do know about this situation is what these two post read.

So I leave this. I’m not trying to say that you were wrong in this situation. I’m not saying that anybody is wrong - well, not yet. But I just wanted to say why people sometimes go to your blog and ask things when they can just ask Google.

Oh. I’ll play ball.

First off. I’m CS. I’m a lady.

Second, liking the way we break down things and preferring our answers is still expecting us to be at their beck and call.

If they used google before asking, why ask anyway?

Yes, we are not dictionaries. Stop repeating what I said. I just, what?

Dude what is your point even?
