White privilege is beat poets producing sloppily-written works like “On The Road” and “Howl” under the premise that white, middle class, college educated authors are somehow oppressed by their privileged upbringing and that the glorification of poverty is the solution.

Mod note: And before any white English majors wet their pants over this one, my degree is in English and I’m a certified English teacher (in fact, Howl is one of my favorite poems ever). You can still enjoy their poetry and acknowledge that it comes from a privileged standpoint. I say if you can bring up race every time you discuss any colored writer, then there’s nothing wrong with bringing up race with white writers as well.
