That ask I got earlier really made me think. Why is it so hard for white people to understand what we want? Yes, we were mad that Gabby wasn’t getting the coverage she deserved. And yes, we’re mad that once she finally gets coverage, it’s problematic as fuck. It’s this culture where they expect us to be happy with table scraps. 

“At least you’re not slaves anymore,” became “at least you’re not on the back of the bus anymore.” Like Brother Malcolm said, they want to stick a knife nine inches in our back and then thank them when they pull it out two inches. 

Don’t say that nothing makes us happy. We’ll be happy when Gabby can get the SAME kind of coverage that Jordyn Wieber or that idiot Lochte can get.

We’ll be happy when we’re truly equal, not when racism isn’t as bad.
