White privilege is being a white Australian and complaining about having to pay taxes which contribute to a benefit program that helps Aboriginal people to live in white society. It’s thinking “Sorry” is enough to compensate for destroying an entire spirituality. It’s refusing to understand that, before white people invaded Australia, the Aboriginal people lived nomadically, and were 100% environmentally sustainable. White privilege is having your ancestors completely annihilate millions of people and an entire culture, and thinking that it’s not fair that you’ve got to pay for them to live. It’s overlooking the abuse and neglect, refusing to even try to understand that it’s not “our” society to Aboriginals, it’s “White man’s” society, and they were forced into it and there’s no way back out.
